Everyone is on social media, or so we are told. Reality tells me, there are many folks using social media. Visit any coffee street on Main Street U.S.A. and I can guarantee you will find people of all ages using some form of social media. You will also find real newspapers open, and often times a local radio station playing in the background. Through the years I have watched businesses explode with social media and traditional marketing. I have seen them work together in brilliant ways, so I thought I would share these tips with you.
POST REGULARLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Be regular in your status updates, pins, and tweets. Did you know that local news media uses social media to find stories today? If you have something really awesome happening with your business, be sure you share it on social media. If you have been posting regularly, your social media posts will get there attention. Traditional marketers will recognize your business name and know that you have a business that folks want to know about. Why would they want to do a story on a business that nobody seems interested in? Chances are you will be contacted by a reporter in a relatively short matter of time.
Let’s face it, you want your business to be the chatter in your community, right?
If folks see your company logo, or your face, in the local newspaper and then again on social media, you have a better chance of getting them to pay attention to you. The chatter will create buzz in your community and help your business grow.
CREATE A HASHTAG
Hashtags are everywhere. If you watched a television show last evening, you probably saw a hashtag on the screen. Marketers are hoping viewers are watching television with their smart phone in their hand. They are wanting viewers to send out a tweet, using the hashtag, while the television show is airing. If you go to Twitter and search a hashtag from a television show, you will immediately learn a lot about that show and why you should be watching it on a regular basis. When is the last time you sent out a tweet, using a hashtag, to promote a television show you were watching?
It’s fun to see how businesses are embracing all that social media has to offer. We are in an era where opportunities are overly abundant when it comes to marketing our businesses. As with anything, try something new. If you do not take that first step, you will never know what the outcome may have been. Your business can grown when you combine social media and traditional marketing, as you will become the talk of your town, in a good way!
